Kensington, Maryland, a suburb of Washington DC located in Montgomery County, was originally inhabited by Native American tribes including the Piscataway and Nacotchtank. In the late 17th century, English colonists began to settle here, and by the mid-18th century, the land was granted to several prominent Maryland families. The town itself was founded in 1894 when the B&O Railroad constructed a station here. The Kensington Train Station is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
